SAP is a government-defined process in accordance with Part L Building Control Regulations. It is a calculation of the energy performance of new dwellings/ buildings. From April 2006, all new-build structures for residential purposes require a SAP calculation.
Based on your plans and specification, our Plan Assessors will calculate the energy efficiency and carbon emissions figures of the proposed building. There are two stages to this process:
Stage 1 – ‘Design Stage’
This is called the ‘design’ stage. In accordance with Part L Regulations, your Inspector will require the SAP report at the same time as your Building Control Application. Without the SAP report, it is unlikely your BCO/AI will allow the building to commence.
Stage 2 – ‘As-built’ stage
This is called the ‘as-built’ stage and is required when the building is completed. Enviko will provide the second half of the SAP procedure, so that your BCO/AI is able to sign off the structure. Without a relevant SAP calculation it will likely prove impossible for the building to be released from Building Control. Please be aware that your BCO/AI may request a re-submission of the SAP calculation if any changes are made to the specification after the ‘design’ stage has been submitted.
Furthermore, from April 7 2006, all extensions and most conservatories require a SAP calculation. In accordance with Part L Regulations, Enviko will complete two SAP calculations – one calculation based on
the existing structure, and another based on the new structure. Together, these two SAP calculations provide Part L compliance.
